The Crown Room at San Diego’s legendary Hotel del Coronado looks straight out of Victorian times with its high arched ceiling, gleaming dark wood, and whimsical chandeliers modeled after the cowardly lion’s crown from The Wizard of Oz. Yet there’s nothing Victorian about brunch.
Every Sunday, hundreds of guests, tourists, and local residents flock to the Crown Room for a sumptuous spread that blends classics such as made-to-order omelets with unexpected items such as shrimp pozole, spicy hot chocolate soup, and other foods that were unheard of in the nineteenth century.
